HMS Harrier was an 18-gun Fly-class sloop, built for the Royal Navy during the 1830s.
Description
Harrier had a length at the gundeck of 114 feet 4 inches (34.8 m) and 93 feet 6 inches (28.5 m) at the keel. She had a beam of 31 feet 3 inches (9.5 m), a draught of 11 feet 9 inches (3.6 m) and a depth of hold of 8 feet 3 inches (2.5 m). The ship's tonnage was 485 69⁄94 tons burthen.[1] The Fly class was armed with a pair of 9-pounder cannon in the bow and sixteen 32-pounder carronades. The ships had a crew of 120 officers and ratings.[2]
Construction and career
Harrier, the third ship of her name to serve in the Royal Navy,[3] was ordered on 30 January 1829, laid down in November 1830 at Pembroke Dockyard, Wales, and launched on 8 November 1831.[2] She was completed on 25 March 1832 at Plymouth Dockyard and commissioned on 24 November 1831.[1]
