Eriozona syrphoides is a European species of hoverfly.[1] A large, yet rare (in the UK) 'bee mimic', it can be identified by a yellow scutellum and a reddish tip to the thorax. Found near spruce plantations and rides, or near heathers, willowherbs and other purple flowers in highland Scotland, Wales and northern England between May and October. [2]
