Cheilanthoideae is one of the five subfamilies of the Pteridaceae family of ferns.[1] This subfamily contains about 235 genera and 4546 species.[2]
Phylogenic relationships
The following phylogram, shows a likely relationship between Cheilanthoideae and the other Pteridaceae subfamilies.[3]

Although Cheilanthoideae subfamily itself is thought to be monophyletic, at least half of its genera (including Cheilanthes, Doryopteris, Notholaena, and Pellaea) have been shown to be polyphyletic.[2]
