The A12 highway is a highway in Lithuania (Magistraliniai keliai). It connects Riga and Kaliningrad. Road goes through Joniškis, Šiauliai, Tauragė. Road length - 186.09 km
Speed limit - mostly 90 km/h. Dual carriageway south of Šiauliai. When travelling North from Lithuania to Latvia, beware of Latvian Police running a speed trap at the border. Obey posted speed limit signs. Police sit just on the Latvian side of the border waiting for unsuspecting travelers. Alternative name of the road - Via Hanzeatica. Road was important for transportation of goods between cities, which belonged to the Hanseatic League.
